Can a red eared slider live in a 55 gallon tank for life????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lot of meanness in this herp thread. Poor kid is trying, and you all are jumping all over him. Yes, your tank ought to be bigger, keep changing the water, and he should remain "healthy", getting a larger footprint tank, will make him happier.

As for everyone else, back off the guy. He clearly has it housed poorly now, but he's taking steps to fix the problem.
It'd be much easier to let him off the hook if he wasn't doing this all the time...

easy on the guy. good luck with what your doing man. i got my female in a 55 five for now. and until she gets huge thats when i know when to upgrade.

With great swimmers like sliders, you should fill it as much as possible. Floating basking docks help achieve this, as well as above tank basking areas which allow you to fill the entire tank.

Cool I was getting misinformed or confusing with soft shells.

Thanks, You have to fill the water to the top of the tank? My parents told me to fill it half way to the top.

You don't have to. You could put your turtle in a shoe box and fill it with nails if you want to. But you SHOULD give your turtle as much swimming room as you possibly can.
