Lot of meanness in this herp thread. Poor kid is trying, and you all are jumping all over him. Yes, your tank ought to be bigger, keep changing the water, and he should remain "healthy", getting a larger footprint tank, will make him happier.
It'd be much easier to let him off the hook if he wasn't doing this all the time...As for everyone else, back off the guy. He clearly has it housed poorly now, but he's taking steps to fix the problem.
I imagine it offers more volume for the turtle's heavy bioload.
So how much of the tank should be filled with water?
Cool I was getting misinformed or confusing with soft shells.With great swimmers like sliders, you should fill it as much as possible. Floating basking docks help achieve this, as well as above tank basking areas which allow you to fill the entire tank.

Thanks, You have to fill the water to the top of the tank? My parents told me to fill it half way to the top.easy on the guy. good luck with what your doing man. i got my female in a 55 five for now. and until she gets huge thats when i know when to upgrade.
