Here in Detriot we are the murder capital of the world again or very close. Anyways No matter what we have always had a promblem with gun violence.
But what about legal ownership in your city? Are there very many restrictions or obstacles for that and permits?

Heat does cause aggression, come out this way for living proof of that.
summer is a violent time in the land of 100 degree mid -nite temps(and no I'M not kidding about the temp)

I realised I may not have been 100% clear what I ment, as well in my rush I never explained. Downfall of posting at work. Gun sales are up while violent crime is down. Though many studies have shown that more ccw=less crime(direct correlation from when restrictions are lifted and crime rates begin to drop), criminals prefer unarmed targets, a overwhelming majority of guns used in crimes are not obtained legaly(thus gun restrictions will not affect them) etc, it is possible that the two are not directly related in this case. What is obvious is despite the increase in gun sales and ownership, violent crime has not increased but decreased. This is a undesputable fact and kind.of rains on the antiguns parade.

Actually now that you mention it, it is difficult to obtain a permit legally unless you are in law inforcement or you live in Detriot's suburbs.

^ Exactly.

The criminals will always find a way to get their way, so it can't hurt to even the playing field a bit. The requirements to get a CCW, let alone legally purchase a handgun, in most, if not all, states are extremely prohibitive in the people who were convicted of a variety of crimes are barred from getting a CCW and/or purchasing a handgun (or maybe even any gun); however, some of these people still manage to make repeat offenders out of themselves despite being unable to legally obtain & possess a firearm.

I don't live in the US, but the way i see it is, if to start off with no one had guns except for say law enforcement etc, then the chances of crooks getting hold of guns in the first place wouldn't be nearly as easy as it is now...

So while i agree that there is a slight chance that by letting average citizens owns guns will help keep violent crimes down a bit, it doesn't help control the amount of guns accessible to crooks on the street when they perform robberies etc since it means the crooks also have more access to guns too, especially if they rob a home that has guns laying around...

Homer, banning guns here won't stop people from getting ahold of them. The guns used in crime usually aren't registered because it'd just be tracked back to you. The criminals are finding ways around the system. Now you've got law enforcement and bad guys with guns, how do you protect yourself?

I completely understand which is why i stated that if at the very beginning when (for arguments sake) gun laws were being written that only law enforcement was allowed to have guns the problem may not exist in the first place or at least not be as bad...

Obviously trying to ban guns now after all these years of people owning guns will definitely not remove them from the crooks, and yes, quite possibly will leave the average citizen un-armed and in "possible" danger...
