I know we all go overboard on filtration... but seriously when is it too much? in all reality only so much beneficial bacteria is gonna grow in relation to the amount of ammonia being developed, Im quite drunk by the way, so how much of a buffer zone is enough say u add another fish or decide to feed an entire pound of shrimp to your cichlids?
IM not by any means excpecting figures and numbers but ive got a feeling that some of my tanks are filtered like mad to a point where it only has like half of the media actually seeded

I geusss the reason for questioning this is more based on the last statement made and that I like to keep extra media seeded so I can take entire pieces of biomedia and put them in new tanks and assume that with there massive overfiltration gph that they will be good to go.

just looking for overall thioughts on this line of thinking?

by the way that southern comfort pepper is awesome straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too much filtration wastes time, energy, money and space.

I've always used the rule of thumb double the recommended filtration is a stopping point. 55 gal tank 110 gal worth of filtration is sufficient.

When ur fish dies of stress cuz its blasted around the tank all day

In a heavily stocked tank with large fish dont really think you can over filter. A tank with a couple fish, yea then at some point I think it would be just a waste.

Yep, when the fish can't handle the current coming from your filters then turn it back down 10% and you're good to go. I like going overboard so I know I can add new stock or steal seeded media and not have to worry about anything.
