Lepisosteus, I don't think you will get any bananas. Here in Zone 9/10 in Southern California outdoor bananas rarely/never fruit. Bananas are from the tropics and some banana expert from Peru that visits this gardening forum I go to explained that Bananas need like 100 straight nights of certain temps or sunlight hours in order to fruit.

Hey pyramid, something you said caught my eye. About the nutrient poor soil for carns. I'm guessing since they're eating an animal, they can get away with the roots not getting jack, so to speak?? NEVER thought about that until you just said it :) - N

Exactly they get all their nutrients by eating insects. But from what I have heard they don't really need to eat insects in order to live. I have never intentionally tried to feed them insects. I think they get a few here and there on their own. Messing with them trying to force feed them does more harm than good.

I never thought of that either...Maybe if I see one, I'll pick it up. Name it Audrey. Show the cats who's boss. lol. (still :irked: about her mangroves)

A few years ago we were diving Los Arcos, some rocks south of Puerto Vallarta. After the dive our boat guy (son of a friend) asked if we wanted to try an unusual fruit. I took over the boat (first time I had driven a 150HP outboard with a tiller) and he proceeded to scale the rock to pick a fruit off a cactus-looking plant. It tasted a bit like a Kiwi but much more flavorful.
