I do NOT fool around with filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you still have room to run a canister filter on there! FX5!!!!

I'd run an fx5 on a 65, for sure. Would reduce my water change schedule. I'm not even kidding.

Where are you getting ammonia from?

dropped a piece of tilapia in there and let it rot until my ammonia read ~5 ppm and started up.

it shouldn't reduce your water change schedule. the primary reason for water changes is to remove what your filters can't (nitrates.)

If you're serious about doing that, I'd think about the amount of flow you've got in the tank. You don't want to be blowing your fish around with too much current. Also, at some point, you have too many filters to even be useful. You only have as much bacteria as can be supported by your stock, regardless of how many filters you have on there.

I know, but mechanically...

With the fish I keep, I could keep a truckfull of bacteria busy for years. :)

Thanks. Smaller tanks only here, :) but I get you.

I'm the guy who would shoehorn a 442 into a mini.

that's ME too, nothing bigger than a 90 show tank(25" tall )here ....filtered by 2 ac70's and currently 2 big sponge filters , powered by 570 gph of powerheads

Am I really the only human in recorded history to put HOBs on the side of the aquarium, functionally converting them to HOSs?

I think I am.

sorry, no. I had a river tank set up with a whisper 4 on the side of a 55G back in the 80's. also my first tank with a custom cut glass top. but you are correct, I'm not doing it now.

as far as the filtration - ain't so bad.:mr-t:(I know, wrong flick)
you do realize you could stick an UGF in there and use one of your HOB/S filters as the flow/suction. then I'd be impressed. until then you're just another hanger-on.
I mean, sheesh. look at all that wasted bio-media. and if you have to vacuum the gravel anyway...

now if you ever do get that 442 in a mini, I wanna drive it.

I wonder what would happen to your water quality if you removed one of those filters... lol. Would you say you end up cleaning out filters more often or less often because of the number of filters running?
