Maybe it just me but I've had tons of convicts and 5 star jewels and yes they can be aggressive especially when breeding but not even close to my umbee or dovii!

Think of it this way, if a convict was the size of a dovii or a Umbee there is No way it would lose. That is why I said pound for pound a convict is the most aggressive.

I have owned jd, fh, rd, jewel fish and convicts that were all the same size, and convicts and jewels were the first to go.

Everyone will have different experiences. And lets face it, My 12" Jag was a totally different animal when he was 6"s long.
And I too, have owned jd, fh, rd, jewel fish and convicts. Breeding time, Is when they are all mean MoFo's.
But the worst I've owned was a 4" female convict, I called "B!TCH" , She had a many, many kills to her name, Without breeding.
And a few more, While trying to find her a mate. Finally mated her with 6 -7" FH x Convict crossbreed. They produced a bunch
of feeders for me.

Pound for pound!

Occy's .....imagine a foot long "black" lamprologus ocellatus
Sorry....the Central Americans would be torn apart....;)

My vontihillo Texas are running my grow out tank with two flower horns two argentea and a guttalum and a calico con all around the same size and my red Texas killed my big male con when the coins were breeding so for me its the Texas family

Thing to remember when considering they're all the same size, a 2' Dovii vs. a 2' convict, that convicts tiny teeth are gonna get a whole lot bigger..

Imo, the meanest has always been Red Devils.. They're not so tough in my opinion but they'll pick a fight with anything, even if they lose. The strongest fish would be some sort of streamline fish with decent teeth, like a Managuense.. They're fast and have the same temperament as a dovii, but usually lose to the dovii because of size. But both at 6" would seem to me like the only difference is the jag is more streamline. Their teeth and everything else would be about the same.

I understand all fish even in the same species can have totally different temperaments. But I still say from my experience a convict can be very aggressive especially when guarding fry but not close to the aggression of a umbee or dovii or even most Red Devils. I'm not talking size of fish or its teeth just aggression. Aggression meaning harassing or down right murdering tank mates.
