Landlord not allowing me to keep my tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know some other members had issues with this in the past im curious to how they resolved it. Well recently my landlord was in my house for inspection. Everything checked out fine but she is claiming that my apartment complex has a tank size limit of ten gallons. Witch I was never told even before I moved and made it clear to them I will be keeping fish tanks. Now the property manager and owner changed I renewed the lease but wasn't told about this till now.

Wow I'm sorry...... I'm sure every landlord has seen their share of floods and incidents concerning fish tanks.

Are you on ground level or above? Maybe if you live upstairs you can talk about moving to the first floor to avoid serious damage and perhaps a little more cash every month to sweeten the deal?!

Good luck as I know how much you care for your fish!

No hot water and no heat is grounds to withhold the rent until it is fixed, that will get their attention

I don't know what the rental market is like in your town, landlords are happy to have you move out here. Gives an excuse to keep your deposit for little things and get another sucker to move in. :)

Not only that, but if they really play hardball they can keep collecting from you after you leave. A lease is essentially an agreement to pay X amount of dollars.

I have had this problem at my girlfriends apartment...the lease says nothing over 10 gallons...I spoke to the manager which is a complete ***** but got her to agree on a 20 gallon...all I said is what am I suppose to put in a 10 gallon come on work with me...doomie I would keep the fish tanks and take them to court if I were you especially if the lawyer said its a winnable case...I know you love your fish just as much as we all do...

I'm trying to get in contact with the landlord to see if we can make some type of agreement if not my next step will be taking legal action.

good luck, I hope it works out for you!

If you look at it from their perspective, they're just trying to protect the property. If you can offer something for protection, either insurance or an extra deposit maybe they'll be agreeable.

Thanks I've been trying to get in contact with the landlord and property owner both seem to be avoiding it.
