720 8X3X4 Armatus Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1" thick for 4' tall???? :( Regardless, I bet the Armies will love that thing!!!!

Anyways... First thing I'd do is sell the pumps. Look at the wattage rating on those things vs GPH. IF they're what I'm looking at they're 145 watts for only like 1K GPH? I use a very similar pump for my skimmer at home and hate using it but apparently that's what the skimmer works best with. I think it's a waste of electricity. You could save yourself enough money in electricity in probably a couple months to justify brand new efficient pumps like Reeflo, Dolphin, Wlim, or Evolution.

Good idea on the pumps. I researched very well the 1" inch acrylic and all the tanks being made are 1" inch acrylic. That seems to be the standard for these size tanks. Anybody else feel its under built? I appreciate your input bro and I was wishing it was 1.5" but just thinking how heavy it was that would of made the tank 1100 pounds and 1400 pounds for 2"inch.

There little giants...
1 of these...3-MDQX-SC
2 of these...4-MDQ-SC

The 3 series is for the water return and the 2 others are for pulling water. 400 watts total.
Anybody have any better ideas for this set up.
I will be using a 1500 gph pond pump inside the tank I have for a power head to add circulation and get the water spinning around.
I checked out the dolphins and reefflos there are awesome. Can I add 1 really powerful return pump to replace the one I have? The wattage seems high on all these pumps. My electric is already at 400-500 a month.

That's a fantastic sized tank - i love those really tall tank.
The sump picture is very small - would be nice to get a better view of it?

I'd love to see the armatus that's going in there - just the one is it?

Niger cats are great by the way, i have two.

Thanks man I will try and get some better pics soon.

Is it possible to get 1 Dolphin 6,250 GPH pump to just run the whole thing? I would change the plumbing of course.

Not sure why not......

I'd personally go with 2 smaller, more efficient pumps...... That way if one fails you're not dead in the water. Depending how the sump is set up you might still need something for the bio tower if you're running one.

Sounds like a confusing sump that could use a revamp...... :)

what a monster! a lil to tall for my liking. would of been even better if it was 8x4x3. cuz i prefer wider tanks than taller tanks. and def try to get a few more armatus. a small school of them would look amazing. or perhaps get a goliath? not sure if they are compatible. a tank this size. i would make it a show tank and get only nice prized fish.

Thanks bro. Its not that confusing the tank was a saltwater set up and comes with 2 stronger pumps pull style pumps for pulling the water thru the tower and sump and 1 pump with more gph for the return. I have my bro from the LFS coming over Sunday to help me with the wet dry. I am thinking just changing the the return pump to a 6000 gph pump and keeping the other 2 for pulling. I am of course gonna buff the acrylic before I fill the tank. My Armatus seems to be looking at the tank and getting excited wondering if its all for him!

Yes man a little tall for my liking also and would of loved a 4 foot wide tank! So far the only fish I plan on having in the tank is my pride and joy my Armatus. Might have some other stuff in there but don't want my Armatus being bothered with night time activity from gulpers and other catfish but would like some other cool fish. I just want the fish to be perfect for my Armatus.

Just an idea but what about a school of breeding cichlids on the other side of the tank away from the current where the drift wood, java moss and Anubias will be and by the natural sunlight!

Can you explain "pull" pumps? Never heard the term before.

I'd do a moving bed myself......

Al,

I'd wager a pull pump is one that does the work by pulling water up via the vacuum side as opposed to pushing water up via the pressure side. At least that's what I take away from it.
