Huh? I read that three times and came away with that you think I'm skinny, bald, and enjoy playing the skin flute. Mix these guys up all you want in your own tanks, but once they hit the market I see nothing good coming of it. All I was alluding to.

I will say that I've never once complained to the moderators. Several times I've logged back on and you've gotten the threads shut down while I was away and I never got a chance to respond. Feel free to check with any of them. Not sure if they can see how many "complaints" I've done - but all I've ever done is report threads that belong in the hybrid section.

Yeah thats right Modest guy, I do lol... Can you play Beethoven on that thing? Moon light Sonata??? Dam that boy is talented lol!!!!!!! I bet Mr.Clean really likes when you play that one

No, you misunderstood me. I was referring to people "beating a dead horse" about the topic. As in, it's all been said and argued about before on here... the horse is already dead (as in it's already settled), so stop beating it.

You are right. You can't teach responsibility or morals over a forum. I'll stop posting on such threads. All it does is cause a mess instead of getting people to think independently.

Umbee's too large and aggressive for nearly all aquarist? The same publication that accepts and gives add space to MFK? MONSTER fish keepers? I do not have an exact number of members this forum has but I can say a great deal of them keep fish that grow larger than Umbee's some having real attitude problems as well. I'm not being a jerk about it so please do not take offense, I'm just saying I bet that decision was more political than anything.

You do realize that a 55 gallon tank is considered 'large' for the average aquarist? Even on this site, there aren't as many people as you think that have a tank large enough to house an umbie pair for life.

Keep fighting the good fight darth pike and dogofwar. I don't even need to post anymore...

See above, towel has been thrown by me. Luckily I know this site is just a small group within the overall cichlid community in the hobby. Makes me still hope that the hobby wakes up one day.

Was said it didn't fit to the direction the hobby was going dude! Didn't assume a "grand conspiracy" puppetofwar, I said politically smashed!

A lot of publications are cracking down on 'responsible fishkeeping' ... which might mean promoting fish most average aquarists can't keep or not publishing hybrid stuff. Might have been just that. If I had a tank large enough, I'd buy some of UK's blacks and post them on a scientific cichlid forum under their location name. I'd be very curious as to the responses.

Looking to far into the point I was making. And of course if you cannot house them do not get them! But for those of us that can would love reading about it naturally!

Even the average hobbyist (which we all were once, "the expert in anything was once a beginner") has goals and fish they'd like to keep one day and surly would like to read about especially sense this fish hasn't ever been published before, it'd bring it to more hobbyist around the world at least in writing (which was my goal)! As far as hybrids go I do not keep them so wouldn't really know about that, they are fun to look at though.

Oh I understand that part of it. I've scratched quite a few cichlids off my dream/wish list ... a list compiled from magazine articles that introduced me to new species. At the same time, I can see that passing on an Umbie article given their size. Heck, even dovii weren't mentioned in those older articles because at the time, most didn't have the tank sizes that allowed even advanced aquarists to keep them, let alone TFH's target audience (which isn't us here btw).

Down playing things? Let's call it perspective....

The pipe is clouding some of yours. Or maybe just a shortage of critical thinking skills.

I guess the decision not to replace the current inhabitants of the National Aquarium with hybrid umbees is also somehow Mo's contrivance? Who else is in on it? The Illuminati? What did the President know and when did he know it?

Or maybe 99.999% of aquarists - including me - simply don't have the massive tanks required to keep a 20+" cichlid for life...so focus on other parts of the hobby.

Puppy who likes to play lol...... First of all, Im drug free guy :) as far as thinking critical, well you can go ahead and stress yourself out over things you cant change... :) They way I see it, everything has its place in this hobby. Regardless of the size of the fish or tank size required. Anything new should be heard and seen because within that 99.999% there are people who are interested in hearing and seeing whats new in the hobby. True, not everyone can house a big Umbee for life but doesn't mean they shouldn't know more about them simply because one good article on them can sparks someones interest and that hobbyist may want to get a big tank and try an UMBEE, Dovii,P-Bass out!!! :) Anything new is a good direction for the hobby as it allows the hobby to grow meaning the Fish keeping Community... Regardless if its Pure or hybrid fish.... People should and will always keep what fascinates them. As far as focusing on other parts of the hobby, well let me put it to you this way... I focus on what interest me, theres so many cool fish to keep and my two car garage can only facilitate so much... So I keep and maintain whats the coolest Cichlid to me,, The UMBEE..... The water-gate scandal is in progress lol!!!!!!!

A small group doing big things! clearly:D otherwise we wouldn't of grabbed your attention lol...... I don't know about the rest of the hobbyist on here but I sure the hell ain't going to let you, Dogofwar or the modest guy dictate what I keep in my home aquarium!!! You speak of morals theres nothing morally wrong going on here. As long as what we do in our home aquarium don't affect the wild populations and the fish are well cared for and not living in poor conditions then people can do what they want with there home aquarium. In other words, what keeps them in front of there fish tanks :) like I said all natural strains will be kept and maintained by me and other hobbyist that want to keep the natural strains. Im excited to see how these new designer Umbees will turn out and what cool color variant, strains will arise from them... This will no doubt keep things interesting for Umbee Keepers around. Another contribution has been made by another hobbyist wither or not if you agree with it and the tale of the Umbee continues.....
