Help a newbie I.D. his flowerhorn

Ya my lfs told me he was male when I got him too.
And ya his kok is coming back. I know its still some what deflated because it was bigger when I first got him

This pic was taken the day I got him

hhmm, spots on dorsal fins or not, big kok or not, im really sure tht it's a male. hahah

They have almost exact features other then the Kok,

Im not saying you guys are wrong as it could be a male. Im just simply stating that nothing you guys stated actually means its a Male.

My opinion is female. Its 50/50 till vented.

Vent it, now I'm just curious. One photo looks like it has her tube dropped but tank glare fuzzs the pic. I didn't know females could get kok until I got this gal.

She's laid a few times, but my boy has a taste for caviar.

Im curious to why my male has spotted fins.. And your trying to say his is a male because it does not have spotted fins. My pic disproved that theory right away. Kok size. Bar count, spotted fins.. All mean nothing when sexing.

Saying males have more vibrant color and a bigger kok is also a very poor way to look at it. There are so many different qualities of flowerhorn.

Ahh! Now its driving me crazy. But this will be my first time venting and odds are I still won't know what I'm looking at. So this weekend when I finally vent him/her i will take pics so a more educated user can hopefully determine the sex

Are you refering to the Bars running up along the side of the flowerhorn? Im refering to the fins actually being spoted.

Oooh, nice. Must be a blue-base one. With proper water conditions and good food, the hump should reach its potential. Try mixing different feeds, live and dry, in his diet. However, nuchal humps are always just a 50/50 chance. Some grow, some don't. Good luck!
