What's a good guard dog?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Get a Great Dane. Awesome family dogs and have a scary loud bark. Very gentle and loving though. Would do well in an apartment as they love to lounge around. People crap themselves when they come to our house cause our Dane goes off as soon as she hears something, usually before we do. We have three kids and she's like their mum the way she protects them. Can't recommend them enough.

Little story. I took my dogs to the dog park there was the biggest Dane I've seen to date. He ran up to me (playfully) and barked about 2 feet in front of me and it felt the bark reverberate through my body. Very intimidating. I can only imagine what it sounds like inside.

I would not want to clean up after a dane, let alone the food bill to make that cleanup. think i have my limits and that's any dog the craps bigger than me.

Beautiful white shepherd I personally would want an all white or black if I got one they just look so good

Food bill is not too bad. No more than a German shepherd or Rottweiler. They don't eat like Labradors. If you feed them quality food, it comes out the other end "neatly". Although I will agree its industrial sized.

Had to laugh at this as her bark made me jump a foot in the air when we first got our Dane. (She was a rescue and I'd never had one before)

My lab was in my house when it was brocken into but more importantly don't expect a dog to be a security system. If your getting it to bark and discouage someone any breed that barks will do fine. But if the burglar is willing to break in even with a barking dog their going to be willing to kill the dog once they get in if it gives them trouble.

Here's a list of not only great guard/protection dogs but amazing family dogs aswell. Also just like with any dog you're going to have to do some training, aswell as protection training.

Cane corso, boerobel, dogo argentino, Ambullneo Mastiff, Dutch shepherd.

If you're looking for one of the best protection dogs their is than I would definetly go with the belgian malinois. But they need a lot exercise. And if you don't train them they will train you!

Good luck on you're search!
