ST dat ID

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And most little indos that look that bold in color, lose that bold color by the time they hit the size of recent pulcher sale. The creamy color usually turns into a pretty nice dirty gold color. But not pulcher gold. You need to study up pulcher gold, forget the tail stripes for a minute

These 2 are different fish coming from different collection points imo. Both pulchers!! Top one is true ST (body shape along with the striping) coming from either the lower Mekong river basin or the Chao Phraya river basin. Bottom pic either comes from Cambodia or Vietnam most likely. Both pulchers!! The bottom pic is not an indo. The op needs to look deeper than the tail striping, otherwise his signature vid of his "old 750" is an indo as well because of the tail striping..if that's all we're gonna look at

Sorry for delayed post, had a cooking disaster I had to cleanup

I did mention pulchers can have different body shapes so the pointy faced (low forehead compared to the rat face "high forehead of your top pic in opening post) is one of those traits that can differ. I'm no expert on collection points, just a lot of hearsay over the years has given me little knowledge of their origins. Wish I lived in these regions to know if pulchers with oddball striping and body shapes all lived in the same exact waters. I look for dats with great adult color. Couldn't give a hoot about striping. All about the black n gold of an adult dat. I'm am very lucky to have the dat I have, but would have no problems owning a pulcher with questionable striping. All about the black n gold and the wonderful pulcher personality..

JL is prob right with the whole CT, VT bullcrap. Made up names maybe, but not sure if they originated from people selling phony 3bars though, but it could very well be the case

What are you basing your ID on then? I have seen three bar Indo's that look exactly like the fish you are saying are Pulcher.

Do you have picture of the 3-bar Indo that looks exactly like those fish I ID as pulcher?

Here's a 3 bar Indo. Looks just like a Pulcher. So tell me what part of the fish makes it IT?View attachment 1067950

I usually ID a fish base on the whole fish. For this particular fish, one thing stuck out is the 4th bar (counting from the bar at the eye). That bar looks like #7.

Actually, not all pulcher are gold. I had some reddish/bronze color pulcher

That's what I used to do but I have seen Pulcher with very similar 4th bar at the top that points toward the front a little.
I don't think you can go on color because I have had bright gold Indo dats and not so bright gold Pulcher like you mentioned.
The guy that posted a video of his odd balls feeding crayfish. All those so called Pulcher are all unstable and dark in color and they were all shy so I don't think color is a characteristic you can rely on.

This is why I brought this up. There's too many opinions of what a Pulcher looks like and not any conclusive proof that an "oddball" is really a Pulcher, Indo, or who knows, maybe another species.

Here, take a look at the well known vendor thread, post #2, and let us know which one is the 12" CT for $1800? Oh, don't go post or derail his sale thread! Just look and post your comment here.

Given his past Id's I would say second and third pic from the top are what he calls CT. First pic is Indo and the beast in the last pic ST.

I actually used to refer to those as an orange/gold base, same thing. I remember my last chance for one of these darker gold beauties was back when pulchers just started to drop off the face of the earth (around 2002). I called Rich from infinite aquatics to inquire about lei aros. He knew I was a dat nut & told me to get pulchers now, they're dissapearing quick. He had a 5 to 6inch fully symmetrical forkbar orange/gold base deep bodied pulcher for $180 ("new arrival & prob the last one he would see for awhile") Didn't get him, had enough dats at the time & felt the price was too much since most 5 to 6inch pulchers around that time went for about $100. Now i'm glad I didn't get him cause my other dats could of stunted the beauty or at least held him to lackluster growth for years, but for a while I was kicking myself for not shelling out the peanuts Rich was asking for him before the price absolutely went through the roof
