Here is a pretty poor pic of a group I had for over 8 years. I bought the little guy in the pic when these fish were 6 years old to try and get them to breed. I had a male and 3 females. The male was almost 16" when he died. They have been my favorite fish I have kept in over 35 years in the hobby.

I just loved the coloration, the incredible appetite, and the sheer mass of these fish!
I would recommend all that have large tanks to give this species a try, you will not be disappointed!

They are big enough to hold their own against all but the most aggressive species, but at the same time they generally do not bully others.

Good filtration and high water changes are a must since they eat so much.

Agree. Pearsei ate very underrated or maybe it's because they are not that common

Here's my guy with a mouthful of romaine, he's around 9-10". Would love to find him a lady but haven't had any luck sourcing a mature female. He's currently in my 135gal, but will be in my newly acquired 220gal in a couple weeks.
