Big ole Texas needs your help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay a little update he looks a lot worse. I medicated him and the community tank. He's not worse as in behavior still swims fine but his mouth looks worse.. I hope he recovers in a few days

Getting off work soon! My lfs thank god has them in stock called them on break. Wish my luck. Anything I should be worried about? Do these meds crash my nitrogen cycle or stain my tank or anything?
I have two huge sponge filters as a backup in my tank thats always running including a 40 gallon sump filled with media.
meth. blue will stain your tank so that's best left to a dipbath for the infected fish.

kanaplex and furan never screwed up my tanks cycle but I can't speak on actual knowledge there because I'm not sure if they will kill the beneficial bacteria or not.

good luck, its tough sometimes..this hobby of ours. You are doing what you can for him so whatever happens now is up to the fish essentially.

A little update. His behavior improved he's actually roaming around the tank like he used to and not by the sponge filter now. He seems fine but the duck lips got worse. Like a lot worse but he's acting so much better with the medications. It's just a waiting game now. Here are some pictures when I got home yest.

He's not running against the tank that's just how he looks now

its a good sign if his behavior improved, make sure to do a full cycle of the treatment, don't let up.

Yes I'm going by what the box is telling me. It improved dramatically he's not being lazy anymore and breathing as heavily. Thanks for the help.

Another thing is he doesn't show any stress bars or turns black. All my Texas in the last did this when they're breeding or showing dominance or the obvious stress. His colors are the same.

Youre welcome.

ya a lot of my fish never show stress coloration even when I know they have to be stressed, I think it comes down to the individual fish.

When it comes to diseases and infections I don't know much other than ICK lol so when I saw this on his mouth I was shocked. When I was at the pet shop they didn't even what it was.

Do you think it would be appropriate if I were to do a meth blue/salt bath on him in a bucket and put him back in the hospital tank? Not right now after the treatment in two days according the package.

I would think it would be a good idea, yes. will help him breathe easier so if nothing else that's a good thing.
