I agree on this. I think most people tend to over exaggerate the exotic animal trade, the bird trade can't really be over exaggerated. It's honestly awful. I had a blue and gold macaw, he was captive bred and had a room to himself.
I would never keep a bird in a cage smaller than it can move around in, play in, and stretch its wings out at the very least, along with a few hours outside of the cage. That would be a bare minimum. When I have enough money and time to keep a macaw again, I'll probably do something in the neighborhood of 8 feet long and 5 feet wide and have it go up to the ceiling. I'm not sure which macaw to go with - a harlequin (blue and gold crossed with greenwing) or a hyacinth. Maybe both![]()
please don't tell me you have a pet Black Vulture, Duane.....
Wow, same here! Sometimes you can find rehomed hyacinths for around 2 grand, however palm cockatoos are ALWAYS expensive and the waiting lists can be years long. They don't seem to be the most interactive parrots either, I would probably never own one. I'm more of a macaw guy than a cockatoo guy.Hyacinth are my favorites.....and the BIG black Australian Palm Cockatoos

I actually want to hear if you have a vulture. I hope you don't though![]()
yea, some crocodilians tame-down better than parrots LOLSkittles our conure was captive bred. Kaylyn raised her from a hatchling at petco until she was almost a year old. When she went on clearance is when I bought her. I think she was $549.99 originally, after employee discount and clearance price she was around $300. She was Kaylyn's gift before I joined the army, back when the bird still liked me. After the army not so much. Birds are way too intelligent to be kept captive. I can't think of the documentary we watched, but it nailed it. It changed Kaylyn's mind on wanting an Amazon.
We will keep skittles until she leaves us, regretting I ever got her. Knowing she is cared for, But never again. Not even a parakeet. Birds don't have brains hardwired like fish. They do get depressed and miserable. No matter how you try to spoil them. No one can give them their natural wild range. Parrots are so far from domestication like chickens.

that sounds like a great way to get "average Joes" some hands-on experience with crocodilians.....and a place that offers to take it back so they can use it as a breeder.....everyone wins. No alligators released in local rivers, pond, lakes, ............SEWERS lolRight! Even confined, if you meet the environmental specs their brains are hardwired for breeding eating sleeping. My buddy had an American alligator that was totally chill. His deal was sweet. $150 got you the gator from a farm in Wisconsin dells. Once the gator became to big you trade it back to the farm for a new baby gator. If your gator dies you have to buy a new one to continue.
