Bichir only tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here i am stressing over my tank size and i didnt know you could have so many together like that. I looked up some pics of other tanks and saw many that were "poly-carpeted" lol
Is that a preferable thing to do with them? (Like overstocking a cichlid tank to minimize tank aggression?

All depends on you amd what your comfortable with. Me im not comfy with overstocking. I have like 8 or 9 in a 150 and would never have done that if i wasnt upgrading with in the next month or so to a 300

Having a solid background in plumbing will make my new tank super easy to do water changes in. When i get my 150T, im going to build the stand to house a 75gal dementioned water curing tank. All drains and feeds in place and "ready water" on hand.
The "bucket theory" sux and would even more once trippled lol.

What would be even better is making a 75 gal sump. It would add more water volume and help with the frequency you do wc's

I agree with jaws and prefer the less is more thing. Overstocking usually makes for a lot of work and I like to enjoy the hobby. lol

I have a 300g (96"l x 24"w x 30"t) and I currently have 5 polys with a 6th going in soon. Even then I will likely rehome one and just have the five. Being that they are mostly larger growing lower jaw (endli, ansorgii, lap x2) and a larger growing upper jaw (weeksii), I feel the tank is done.

I had considered the sump idea. Kind of up in the air on that part. Yes, xtra water volume is great, but i do like the 'cured water' idea as well. U never know when an emergency might require the extra tank or immediate water change.
I had 2 gar and 2 oscars in a 75 years back. The oscars decided to lose composure one day and broke my tank killing both the gar. That was a mess to come home to. lol

I agree. The dogpile thing is cool looking, but the maintanence gotta be a killer.
A nice piece of Mopani and a mandenizi (i think its called) branch with some plants and rocks and the 4 aforementioned bichirs will make a nice home for them i think

Btw... id love to have an 8x2 tank, but i just dont have the space for one. I had been considering making a 6'x4'x2' plywood tank with only a front and one side viewing, but i think my LL would shoot me. Lol (dont see why though, im already gonna "brace and jack" my floor for the 150. Bet its over a yr b4 he even realizes it. Nobody ever goes into the basement here.)
