Well people at a church often are not going to be the ones that kidnap kids. I would think someone would easily let their guard down.
I never go on the streets alone anymore, not after the shootoff between robbers and police within earshot of my house. I also want to learn pistol and self defence shooting, i am proficient with rifles but need to learn how to handle and shoot a pistol. You never know what could happen these days

I agree, owning/using a firearm properly is one of the best ways to make sure you are safe.
I can shoot a rifle well, a 210ft shot on a moving guineafowl or an 80 ft ironshot sight on a squirrel is good enough but pistols are the main self defence weapons in the home if I'm correct?
Being alert the whole time is a necessity these days with ignorant parents and people who are not always right in their heads
completely agree. and yes I prefer a pistol or a short stock shotgun for home defense. I have a 12g by my bed at all times.
Years ago I lent my mother my 12 guage after she had been robbed one dark early morning on her way to work.The perp had her identification and address information and she was worried that he might attempt to invade her home....and I didn't want her to have to worry too much about aiming if he did.
Not only being alert but you also have to be willing to do anything to protect yourself. Not very man people can look another human being in the face and pull a trigger on a gun. Comes down to a fight or flight situation for most people and when you hesitate against someone that has 100% bad intentions you lose
A lot of the awareness talk here is a moot point on this situation. A. she was 10 years old and B. the guy that killed her was a relative and she was found on his property. At least in Texas we will kill him back.

Little off topic, here in Des Moines Iowa, two separate police officers. We're ambushed in their cars, and shot several times. They were buried today. The assassin was a white middle aged person. He was captured alive and is in jail.
