Not saying killing them is the only answer but offing 2 or 3 of them is hardly going to upset the biological balance.
last time I checked the only way its illegal to have a knife on you in PA is if its an automatic knife aka switchblade, gravity etc etc etc....
I imagine they'd throw the whole "carrying a bladed weapon with no lawful purpose" at you if you had a sword slung on your hip but otherwise you can carry anything anywhere last I checked.
ahh you got them hood squirrels...the smart ones. Around here we have squirrels who don't know what a predator is haha.

Having my hair white today so I can put green and purple in it next week. I haven't had bright hair since I was 17 so it'll be weird seeing my hair purple now that I have sparrows feet (not quite crows feet yet)... Oooo the excitement!

Don't you have a giant drool machine (dog)? If he's well trained enough get him to chase them - even if he doesn't catch them it should still scare the crapper off of them enough that you'd think they'd leave your plants alone.
Post Script: I'm not implying your dog isn't trained, I don't know how well he's trained that's why I said "if".
see hood squirrels comment. They know how to run cats and dogs around in the city lol. In Michigan they have some species of squirrel that is jet-black and huge. I watched a kid from one of the batteries at my unit run after it thinking it would run...didn't run. Never saw a squirrel attack someone until that day and it was the funniest ish I've ever seen seeing a full grown dude in full army acu's get bit and run like a bish from a giant black squirrel.

We don't get squirrels here, so I've never seen them in action... We get possums... Do they count? Lol
Not around here, to many bogans to be cruel to them so they stay away.
Where we lived before however they were pricks and teased our cats, got into the bins, tried biting you if you got too close. Gutsy adorable little buggers they are..
