thank you. I'd like to. Do you have any recommendations for low light plants? Are there any that will grow without having an extra light? Looking for something that is low/ to no maintenance...that is fool proof.....Never have done plants before.

thanks for the tip with the mixing of the sand! You helped me feel confident enough to actually do it. I decided on just getting 1 bag black sand and 1 bag white sand from petco. Did just what you said with Starting with the black first and then slowly mixing in the white until I thought it looked good. Very pleased with the result!

Yep, for low light low maintenance ones I'd recommend anubias / java fern also. There are different shapes and sizes of anubias. Neither one needs to be actually planted.
You could also try Amazon swords, Vallisneria, and cryptocernes for plants that you actually put in the substrate. And floating plants look cool too - I like water lettuce, because I like how the hanging roots look.

Slightly off topic... wonder if rid-x would be helpful in a turtle tank? Or rather, is there anything specific to turtles that may make Rid-X detrimental...
I love that thread too... amazing that everyone isnt doing it. At first i was strictly doing to help keep the foam pads in the eheim clean and man does it work i kept doing it even with sumps because of all the health benefits rd stated. I dont think it will harm the turtles its basically bacteria spores. Try a little (maybe 1 quater teaspoon ?) then up the dosage to what rd suggests.
Is the turtle tank on a sump or canisters (assuming sumps)
