decorate this tank

I love that thread too... amazing that everyone isnt doing it. At first i was strictly doing to help keep the foam pads in the eheim clean and man does it work i kept doing it even with sumps because of all the health benefits rd stated. I dont think it will harm the turtles its basically bacteria spores. Try a little (maybe 1 quater teaspoon ?) then up the dosage to what rd suggests.
Is the turtle tank on a sump or canisters (assuming sumps)
Right now they're in a 29g growout (the biggest turtle in there is like 3 inches with their neck extended) with a fluval 306 canister (thankfully that one doesn't get heavy enough to hurt me haha), their big boy pad will be a 110 with a W/D sump. The rid-x is tempting just because they're so freaking dirty that even being small and having a ton of live plants in there I still have to do water changes a minimum of 2x per week. Just not sure because the physiology of a turtle is so different from a fish, and they don't have a slime coat to act as a protective layer... I guess I'm just concerned that the bacteria might eat at their skin since they don't have that additional layer of protection?

One thing is i have never seen any impact on nitrates but i never see any poop in the tank unless it relatively new. It breaks it down into a powdery goo then ends up in the filter. Clean the cans real good before you dose and expect the tank to stay cloudy for a few days after a few doses it will be crystal clear the next day.

Yeah I'm not expecting much improvement with nitrates, but not having gills it probably isn't that terrible if they're a tad high for turtles. The major benefit is breaking down turtle waste which just goes right to the bottom and sits.

Zilch Zilch

As good as this stuff is....couldnt put a dent in pleco poop ad it doesnt work over night takes time to build up

My memory could be a bit foggy (I read the thread back in may) but don't the bacteria really primarily break down proteins? Plecos are omnivores but have a pretty high vegie ratio... Maybe that makes their waste more difficult to break down?

Thats what i thought as well i could be wrong but i had an l600 and dont remember if i was using the product back then

I have NEVER heard of this! Thank you so much for posting. I am in the middle of reading the thread and am surprised this isn't discussed more... ?

How long have you been using it and how often do you dose it?

Me too its a sticky in the general aquaria discussion and the health and diseases areas. I would say definitly over a year maybe close to 2. I dose it once a week
