Any Bonsai tree Keepers?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are all in ceramic bonsai pots. All but one have broke through and split the pot. Every few years I saw under the pot to severe the tap root. I may leave them in the ground or put them in bigger bonsai pots. Pots require a lot of watering and maintenance. I don't want them to die in the pot.

Ken, have you tried just keeping them off the ground so they don't grow as quick? Unless that's what you're going for.... Some bonsai artists will allow roots to grow into ground to increase growth and nebari in trunk and just do as you do, severing roots every so often. I prefer to slow grow as I have more control of shaping. You're trees have soooo much potential with the growth though. You're going to have your work cut out after all this rain we've been getting.

Not sure if my bonsai American elm will survive the winter,I hope so ,the original plan was to move the pot into the garage, but the solid granite is way to heavy so I just piled leaves over the base and hope for the best.

I do a lot of reading and have tried out some techniques but a novice at the most. Screenshots from my instagram page. They are in development. The "big" tree is a yamadori from my brother's yard. It started out bare and I'll be letting it grow for a while until I get it trained for a pot. I'll get some update pictures when the "storm" here has passed.

Very nice Vil. I thought you moved to Northern Cali. Rain this past few days in San Diego has been crazy. Not to mention the jumper on the bridge which shut I5 down. Luckily I had a full tank of gas in the Camaro. 2 hours to get home. Storm is suppose to last till Tuesday.
I'm a Bonsai keeper that lost interest and that is why they look the way they are. Not by choice. It's this thread that has sparked some interest again. My son still remembers the two dogs you were trying to bonsai....haha.

Nice,do you keep that Elm indoors?
