tank size :
8ft L x 2.5ft W x 2ft H
(240cm x 75cm x 60cm)

2 units fx6 filters
1 unit eheim 2260

current stock
1 crossback golden aro 35cm
1 albino red oscar 20cm
1 tiger oscar 18cm
1 alligator gar 35cm
1 female flowerhorn 12cm

the gar already ate a 14cm RTG aro 4weeks ago and just killed a 14cm King kamfa FH a week ago.. ive been having a nightmare that it will also kill the 12cm flowerhorn and oscars sooner or later.

after doing more researches, i think i am going to return the gar to the store where i bought it..

it has been my very very favorite fish and really fun to watch during the feedng time, but i think it will be the best for the rest.

i dont want to see another aro which i just spent an equivalent of 200 USD get killed or even my oscars get killed..

i owe the oscars a lot because of them i got into this hobby. (all started with 10 gal, then 50, and now 285gal tank).

i like the look of predator tank.
so, once i return the gar, what other fishes will be suitable for my tank and the current stock for life? i like my tank simple and i prefer no substrate as it is a pain to do the vacuuming, and hard to clean.

i am thinking of :
- leopoldi stingray
- another flowerhorn
- blackghost knife fish
- endlicheri bichir
- clown knife fish

or any other fishes that will suit and get along with the current stock??
any suggestions??

thanks!!

how about discuss? they eat shrimps and crickets, yes? coz thats what i mainly feed my fishes...

Discus i would say are too fragile to go in a tank like that... maybe some birchirs on the bottom???

but all the bichirs available nearby are too small.. they are like 5cm big.. or should i put a divider and grow the bichir before mixing it?

Not sure how fast they grow, otherwise would you have a smaller tank you could raise them in first???

i gave my old tanks to friends lol.. so i dont have a spare one.. from what i read bichirs are slow grower.. less than an inch per month while my current stock are mainly growing at the rate of 1in per month.. hmmmmm

a red tail catfish is a good or bad idea?

do i have nuff space for leopoldi or motoro stingray? mmmmm :s

Bad cause it will outgrow that tank in matter of months and most lilely will put other in unsafe stage (be eaten).
For suggestion (all this based on my own opinion :))
As an Asian and grow up there I've seen and kept many Asian Aro so I don't see them a good choice to keep in term of rarity, I would keep a Alligator Gar and get rip the Aro, you will have to upgrade much bigger tank or pond in future for the Gar though but like I said it's just me :)
I tent to lean on the big tank with solo display predator rather than a bunch of huge/giant fish in same tank unless it's a biotope tank :)

if i keep the gar that means i gotta get rid all my fishes or be willingly get them get killed by the gar one day :(
