need suggestions with the 285 gal stocking.. thanks!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
get rid of the gar, fh and oscars cause its most likely that your aro will fight with it
if not vice versa. especially the fh & gator gar. also you will need at least 4' width
for adult rays so if your planning on upgrading in the future it'll be alright otherwise
i would advise against it.

yeah i did get rid of the gar..

i thought 3ft width is nuff for keepin rays? no?

it actually depends on which species but motoros/bds and etc will reach 3'
as adults and thats 3' in disk diameter so wont be enough room unless you
go for the smaller species. but even with smaller species with a larger tank
just because of the heavy bio load rays cause.

ok thanks a lot for all the inputs everyone.. i decided to get 3 datnoids instead of rays..

i wont have time to do 2x large WC per week if i had rays..

with extra bioloads from 3 datnoids i think i should be able to keep the water change once a week just like what ive been doing..

if you plan on upgrading in the future once the rays are bigger you can always run a
24/77 drip system and when you upgrade the tank just increase the gph on the drip.
that is if you decide in the future you want rays. but dats are cool fish and go well
with arowanas.

i can not be happier than what i have right now..i guess lol.. tomorrow i will look for some white/sandy granite tiles for the bottom..

You made 1 mistake...that's a FL in your tank, soon it will beat up your Oscar and Datnoid, eventually it will pick a fight with your Aro. It doesn't matter how big your tank a FL is pure trouble maker that doesn't benefit anything in a community tank but only headache.

i will keep an eye on him.. so far i feel like he thinks that he is an oscar..

aro always swim by himself

datnoids mostly swim together the 3 of them.

flowerhorn most of the time always in a pack with the other 2 oscars. even when they are sleeping. the 3 of them stay at one corner usually.

but yea, i get ur point. if i see some hard evidence the fh starts picking on my aro or oscars in the near future then i will separate it right away
