Udon, Soba, and the Noodles

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks guys!

Couple of videos.

Meatball, Soba, and FattyMacaroni

Not super exciting but he hunts down and eats a blackworm. And then hovers around being cute.

Ziti checking out and maybe trying to eat a ghost shrimp, part one.

Trying again, I thought he got it but nope. It might be a bit big for him.

You can see why I think this is mentally stimulating for them. After this Ziti was swimming around looking for them. Pretty cool.
That vid of Ziti is great. He's like what the heck are you....food? Toy? Friend? Food!

Meatball looks so cool!!! I think one would. E perfect in my 40g.
This is the planted up one? I agree. Mine really likes to explore every nook and cranny looking for tasty critters.

OMG mag your tank is so interesting to watch!

Soba is so unique and is such a good looking moke, i love that gold ring of color at the base of the caudal peduncle.
Thanks, I had to google caudal peduncle - it essentially means their butt right before the tail, yeah? Yes, I really like how he's patterned there and how the tail has a golden ring to it also. I didn't realize that wasn't just how Mokes were until I went back to look at your thread with all of yours (which is so cool to see the variations.) You just rarely see Mokes pop up in here to say hi so I am happy you have a tribe of them!

Agreed. Imagine if Mag get her hands on a 180 gal. It's gonna be a Portlandia Jungle!
I cannot wait! It will be a little less jungly but a big girl version of this.

At first yeah, then I think he realized food... interesting though because he's CB so it's fun to see the instincts kick in. Maybe that's why he's not a great hunter. Or maybe he's just a baby and needs to learn. ;) Ziti is all over the place now at feeding time - not just grabbing food in the heater corner. Last night with the live blackworms too, it is just bringing him out of his shell more and more.

Ziti is looking fantastic Magpie, and your Moke is something really special. Really enjoy watching your tank, I can't imagine how you get any work done with that as a distraction.

Great that meatball ate a snail, talk about a never ending supply of live food that's easy to culture :)

O
Well it's a big distraction for sure! If hubby and I are watching a movie and I get up to say get a beverage, it's hard not to stop and stare and he has to say "hey! stare later!" LOL

I have removed a lot of my MTS because their shells are very hard. I got like 40 ramshorns and threw them in the Betta tank, and then have been throwing a couple of those in at a time.

Good call on the ramshorns. Once they get breeding they're unstoppable! My clown loaches get much the same with a bunch tossed in every week, and I'm sure they don't last the night.

I have never had snails establish actually. Had some when I got plants but after that none. Might try and get some for fry tanks

magpie magpie yes in the planted one but I will have to wait until I move out the mokes and teugs, and take the plants out of the pots and make it a proper dedicated setup like yours, not just a grow-out with plants.

I will probably keep the SB albinos in there with the puffer so you can see them in the background every time I post about the puffer lol

It's going great so far! Granted it has only been a day and a half. He (no idea of the sex) doesn't even really look at the other fish, even just with curiosity. He has been exploring more (vs some initial pacing) and is so fun to watch! I was addicted to watching the tank yesterday between him and the polys.

His belly looked like he needed food so I put some live blackworms in tongs near him and he ate out of the tongs. (Yes!)
I then dumped a few in there for him to hunt.

I also got ghost shrimp (they only had 2) for him to hunt and actually the Teug was really into it! I don't think Teug ever got one but I saw him looking all over for them. Got a couple of videos of this.

It makes me think that ghost shrimp are a generally good idea because it definitely seems to be mentally stimulating for the fish. I'm going to try and buy like 15-20 at some point (they're only 50 cents) and throw them in my shrimp tank to breed and feed semi-consistently.

The puffer and Soba were swimming together a few times. That may have been a fluke but maybe they'll be buddies. ;)
