What do you think of this stocking long term?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay so back to the datnoid idea because i found a place that sales microlepis for pretty cheap. I could do a group of 3 or 4? but i would have to let them growout for a while before they are put in the main tank. as any catfish is going to eat them. i could always wait a while to get the cat too. as I'm not too worried about the polys as i am catfish

Ha, I hadn't heard of them so searched here and immediately saw like 4 people saying that Aba Aba need to be kept solo because they're killers. ;)

Laughing at the "you might lose a finger" comment on SF.

The rep is real. Strong bite force and teeth will do some damage for sure.

I like the catfish, keliberi group, and datnoid idea. If it were me I would add the dats instead of the SDs. Would also be easy to sell and also they look so good with the crisp patterns. That way you don't have to rehome the Silver dollars once you want to decrease the bioload in order to make room for the spotted gar. ;) ....kidding.

my unpopular opinion: get an ornate.

Then you could do: Congi, whatever other Upper Jaws you want, and BIG 3: WEEKSII, ORNATE, AND TEUG!

Oh yeah if you do decide on a cichlid definitly go central american. More attitude, best colors, and better choices.

Loisellei , sysns, and bocourti too any to think of
was waiting for you to start listing some cichlids. It's always a good day when you start listing different colorful ones that are poly friendly. Never even knew these existed. What does sysns stand for?

Bocourti is SWEET.

I think Dats and keliberi group would be too much IMO I would have to pic one or the other. I like the idea of the BIG 3 but i just don't like the aggression of ornates.

that's fair. :) I do not have experience with keliberi or datnoids, so I have no idea how big the bioload would be in combination with everything else. So unfortunately I cannot give advice on stocking the tank. What I can say is that not all ornates are aggressive, but yes that is the reputation. If you are considering ornates, I would get a small size/young age, so that way it is the smallest in the poly group. Introduce all the other polys first and let them get established in the tank. Then after a few months introduce the ornate. That will better the chance of it being cooperative with the other polys.
