First Polypterus: need advice!

E elbereth i rescued this polli, it was in a white substrate and it was pretty washed out.

Idk how long it was in the white sand but after 1 month of being rescued and being in the garnet sand its show more potential.

Its the polli next to the glass.
 
The Polli will settle I'm sure! As for eyesight, they're not that blind. My Polli would follow my finger around the tank.

That's a beautiful substrate. They're so many more color options when it comes to gravel. I initially used fine CaribSea gravel but my delhezi tried to eat it a few times so I switched to PFS. Now that he's becoming more pale, I'm considering getting a dark sand but I've spent so much on various substrates already! :(
