A fahaka is so on my “someday” list. Every time I see them at the fish store I’m so tempted to get one. But at $130+ they are not in my spontaneous buy range. Haha! And that’s good. I want to be prepared before I’d get one.

I think narrowing your list to two and getting both with a divider is a good idea.... depending on your ability to cut ties with one of them. Personally I’d likely get attached to both and be in trouble. Lol

Well I’m still debating on what I really want, I think I’ll do the divider idea but don’t know about the puffer and I’ve gone off Midas cichlids and now want a hoga or chancho or similar, I might do a butti on one side and one of the Amphilophus on the other but only if I can find a male. The other option is to just stick with a butti which would be cheaper and easy to find plus they have great personalities but as you said only when they pass 6” or get a group of Amphilophus and hope for a male but that could be quite costly upfront as hoga and chancho can be expensive so really I haven’t decided on what I want

Dont let the 6" thing stray you away from a butti. They arent shy like your picturing. They are pretty bold in general. And if by chance you did get a shy one, just toss in a few similar size convicts or something similar, to get his confidence up.
