Still not sure what to put in my 300 gallon

Mbu puffer tank.

Mbu puffers need a strict diet do that not?
Not the biggest puffer fan myself
Adding females introduces the possibility of pairs, and one pair of parachromis would probably take over the tank. The larger species of parachromis I assume your talking about Jaguars and Dovii, neither of them are particularly good community fish. Maybe a jag could work, dovii definitely not IMO. Salvini get pretty large, are super mean, and are not convict types. I wouldn't do a pair of salvini, they could easily claim half your tank. The only fish I think you could probably do groups of would be fish like sajica, cutteri. Not as large and mean as salvini.

Ya I think I’m gonna go with Dana idea of a all male amph tank, sorry about my lack of knowledge I have only been in the hobby around 4 years

I think they need a bigger tank too. Fahaka would be ok.

For SA, I wouldn’t mix GT’s with geos. Gt’s Would be too much for them.

That size tank for SA, geez the options are unlimited. Do you want larger predatory cichlids or a peaceful community? Here’s some good combos.

- A medium sized Crenicichla species.
- A group of 8 medium sized Geophagus. Species depend on your preferred color and max size.
- A bonded pair or trio of a severums species.
- a trio of festivums or wild angels
- a school of medium sized deeper bodied tetras like brachychalcinius, or triportheus.

If you want something larger to fill the tank
- Cichla Kelberi
-Astronotus Crassipinnis

I can go on and on.

That’s does sound very very nice and I really like the idea but I like dans idea of a all male amph tank, it would be really nice

Ya don’t they get like 4 feet long? Fahaka would be cool but also but I am not the biggest fan of puffers,

For a all male amph tank what would be my options here for compatibility, I have no experience with any amph besides the red devil (nastiest fish I’ve ever kept) and how many could I put in my 300?

I like puffers but couldn't personally dedicate a 300gallon to 1 fish.
I saw an mbu in the flesh once that was easily 3 foot long and had a head like a soccer ball.

Fahaka get to about 18” and cannot he kept with anything. I kept mine in a 150 and tried some kribs and hemochromis. It ended up eating the hemichromis.

Could he hit and miss with this in a 300. A dominant amph can still wreak havoc.

Amph species are trimac, Lyonsi, and the citrinellus types. Most of the citrinellus complex types all look pretty similar. Might be better using one Amph species and mixing them with a parachromis species. Like doing a male Midas and mixing it with a pair of parachromis loiselli and having a small group of an amatitliana species.

Personally, if I were to ever set up another Ca aquarium, I’d do a pair of red tiger motaguense with a group of chuco micropthalmus. These two species really contrast nicely and are found together in the Rio Motagua. Heavy current and lots of round boulders with some thin branches sunken in. Maybe add a group of cryptoheros chetumalensis with them.
