Sunfish tank

how about a longear sunfish,a pair of pumpkinseeds , a lone bluegill, a xanthic redbreast sunfish, a rock bass and a yellow bass

Pumpkinseeds can be slightly aggressive, but manageable. Longears can be very aggressive as can bluegill. I tend to avoid those for that reason. Northern sunfish/northern longears can work with other sunnies, but ime they are too aggressive with others of their own species.

Perch will work long term in that size tank, but be prepared as they are big eaters.

Please reconsider the bowfin. That would be a great tank for one and mine gets along with all my sunnies.

I'm up for a bowfin if it stays manageable and doesn't bother the suns. Suns are aggressive like convicts but if you keep them in groups like I'm talking it should spread out the aggression.

I might go fish for a group of 6-8 smaller ones for a 125 and then see how they act.

Not bad. I would hope for more suns in a 300 though. The bowfin appealing to the monster keeper in me. I'm afraid it will cause havoc though.

Sunfish packed pretty tight, but I'm not sure about exact numbers of each yet until I do more research. The main fish will be ozark longears though.

I agree with you bass are really kinda boring until you feed them, I love catching them and am an avid fisherman but having one in a tank makes me think a ton of them watch a lure go by and you only catch the most aggressive.

FWIW- I have the current stock in a 225gl; Guadalupe Bass, Spotted Bass, Rio, White river Longear, Texas Longear, Redbreast, 2 Redspot, Warmouth, Green, 3 BluegillXGreen hybrids (1 is pushing 12"). All are adult size fish.

This has been a great mix for me, enough fish that I don't see constant territorial fights like you would in a lower stocked tank.

I see your latest list of fish you are going to stock, I would encourage more diversity to see how different natives fill different niches. Either way good luck and post pics.

That's exactly what I was looking for.

I wasnt sure if they would attack their own first or spread it amongst everyone.

Bluegill x6
Central longear x12
Green x6
Red spotted x8
Dollar x10
Bullhead x1
Northern sucker x1

Maybe some redears, but I don't know. Stocking may be a little thick, but I can always dwindle it down.

I'm all ears for adjustments
