The real problem is that I have two similar size jack Dempsey's in the tank however they aren't aggressive and just stay still , the male salvini check them about however no harm is done.I have read that males will kill the female if any off the eggs have been eaten by other fish.

My birthday is coming up so I could buy a 100-200 litre tank to keep the salvinis in but I don't know what to do with the eggs and eventually the fry??????!!!! IMG_20190113_202539.jpg IMG_20190113_202534.jpg

Congrats!

I suggest placing a sponge filter in the main aquarium. The seeded sponge will be needed so you may remove the objects with the eggs on them. Also could wait until wriggler stage and siphon fry out.

So are you suggesting that I get a new aquarium and keep fry in there with a sponge filter?

The sponge will take approximately 5-6 weeks to be seeded so this suggestion is for the future.

Thanks for the info, my slavini don't look to be fighting each other which is good and the Jack's aren't interested in the eggs

You can just leave them in there. In my experience it takes a couple spawns for them to get it all right. Cichlids are great parents, after they get it down all we should have to do if feed baby brine shrimp for the fry to eat.
Some people remove eggs/fry and do all the work themselves.
The Petco's in my area buy fry. Or you could post here on the site, Craigslist, OfferUp, Facebook fish groups. Feed to other cichlids.
May want to seperate the JDs to another tank. Could stress the parents and make them eat the Eggs/fry.

Don’t panic...this is their first of many spawns. Once they start breeding, they’ll keep on doing it. You have plenty of time for you and them to get it right.

Btw: The males don’t kill the females if the eggs get eaten or don’t hatch. Not sure where you heard that.

Thanks for all the help guys, yes I will try to sell my fry on eBay, to the aquarium and also I might feed them to my terrapins ! I am a lot more calm now , I remember when I first saw my late platies breed, and they ate them! That got me scared lol.
