I see now that it might not be and red dragon but some other aulonocara sp. Thats OB or marmelade cat depending on gender.

so it’s for sure not a red devil. & you suggest moving it over to the community tank? also how do you tell male from female.

Id say its not. Google the aulonocara species and you will see what im talking about.

okay awesome will check into that food for sure. also you say fast him for several days what would you consider doing it for i feel bad not feeding him but i also get what your saying i need to know that everything is out of his system so i can tell what it looks like empty.
I would feel much worse overfeeding him. Cichlids can easily go a couple weeks without food so a couple days is nothing. It is actually beneficial to fast your fish once a while. It’s good to give their system a break.

he just doesn’t have those beautiful colors like all these do? when they are young are they more of a pastel pinkish orangish color. his orange color keeps getting brighter.

interesting that’s something i’ve never been told before. so i should not feed till i guess say like saturday? i didn’t feed him yesterday and then only gave him 2 1/2 pellets today.

Yes they are. They become more vibrant in their colors as they grow. And there are alot of species in the aulonocara family that has diffrent colors.

This is 100% an amphilophus and for the sake of the ingnorance of the op I will call it a red devil but this is not an African cichlid. You can clearly see the fading process it is going through which is prevalent in Red Devils.

Well then this is the forst time ive seen an young amphilophus looking like an aulonocara. Ive got 6 A. Citrinellum thats not that old and they look nothing like this.

Sure when you start feeding him again try and get an idea for yourself on how many pellets you should feed. Always better to feed less than more so don’t ever think you are underfeeding him. Like I said by the end of the day after the two feeding or however many you decide to do he has nothing more than a slight bulge even less than that is ok.
