Freshwater clams from eBay today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh my soul! How do they behave?

They are kinda skidish. I have been down sizing animal wise. Letting all animals go except my two dogs and fish.
Last week sold my pigs, rabbits, chickens and ducks. The two emus are being picked up tomorrow.
Trying to trim our budget and animal feed is not cheap!
I really enjoy my fish.

Understandable. Animal food definitely costs a lot!

Back on topic "Clams"
I was reading about these clams (Corbicula fluminea) and Arizona Aquatic Gardens recommend 6 per gallon in an aquarium. That seems like a lot.
But what I did not know is that they not only feed by filtering the water column, they filter and clean the substrate.
Now that is awesome! They will have plenty to eat for a while. When they eat everything around them, they move.
COOL! :cool-1:

Just remember to check on those that are buried every once in a while, coz if they die, they can really foul up a tank and smell like rotten eggs when you pull them out...

They couldn't possibly be worse than a dead mystery snail. . . . ???

I guess depends how long they are left there :p

This is a really cool thread. I like how unconventional the idea of freshwater snails are. I work with these things all the time at my job, but it never once occured to me to put them in a tank....

I would have thought you’d be the first to experiment with something like this if you work with them...

Would be interesting to see your take on how difficult it is to raise them in a home aquarium...
