Suggestions for 100 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In terms of color and perception my opinion is probably not the best- being color blind. I perceive the same things differently.
What looks good to me may not translate

I think your original idea would work fine. With the severum, EBAs, group of geos, and tetras. I would just scape the bottom sparsely to give the geos room to do their thing. Wherever you put a rock the EBAs will try to set up a nest and breed so maybe scape the opposite ends of the tank heavily so they dont disrupt the tank too much.

And i always warn people since severums are the only fish ive witnessed this with, but severums may attempt to set up nests and guard eggs even being solo in the tank. I believe my female gold is in love with her own reflection...

I’ve seen Red Devils and Oscars do this too

One last question (maybe):

I'm looking at doing a 30 gallon sump as my primary filtration. With the 2 stocking options I'm looking at, what kind of shape am I in with bioload with adult fish? Would a weekly 60% water change be sufficient? I've read pictus cats can be quite sensitive.

Well, folks, it seems I made a miscalculation. This tank will be for the study in a new house. I've done some remeasuring, and I've actually been shorting myself on tank size. A 6ft tank is easily doable in the space.

I'm now targeting a 150 gallon (72x24). I'd still like to stick with a severum as the big centerpiece. Is my original wish list more appropriate for a tank this size (severum, EBA, 4-5 Geos, 12+ Columbian tetras)? Any other colorful, relatively peaceful options I should consider (maybe a flagtail)? Bearing in mind, I don't want to get too complicated in terms of feeding.

Have you considered if the spot you choose for the tank can support the weight?
Once you break 100 gallon we are talking a thousand pounds plus. Is the area a solid concrete or your standard floor joist? How old is the house? If joist are you going along the joist or across?

The weight really adds up quickly when you go big.
Water is 8lbs per gallon
The tank is another 200 plus lbs
Stand another 100 or so
50 lbs give or take is rock/misc decor
A pound per gallon of substrate
Filtration weight can vary, sumps being heavier but can plumb them to another location, Hobs and Cans being lighter.

My 125s weight in roughly around 1500lbs.
