Unhealthy green terror

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fish communicate with body language, also chemical cues, even sounds they make. Besides being small, if he came from a bullying situation, he probably displayed unsure and nervous body language and the other fish took advantage. If it was me I'd go with the tank divider idea, otherwise get him his own tank. A see through divider would give him time to settle down and I've used it before to get fish to accept each other over time, it would give him time to grow and gain confidence, female to get used to him, other fish to 'decide' he belongs there, etc. Besides lighting egg crate, an alternative I've used is expandable window screens, or I've taken clear acrylic, drill a bunch of holes in it, cut to size, etc.

...Also, I agree with Duane's comment earlier. Just two of some species isn't a good idea, with A. rivulatus (GTs) sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. A group can change the whole dynamic, at least until they mature and you get a pair.

thanx I will now go to hardware shop to find it do you guys know the price?. Will he grow in a 5 gallon bucket ?.I searched in youtube by typing light diffuser for aquarium it is showing something like a paper sheet.

If it was me I'd put some methylene blue in there, cover the top with something so he doesn't jump out, and see if he revives--> survives. Adding a small airstone would also be good.

5 gal bucket should be a temporary emergency measure, just long enough to see if he revives before preparing a next step. After that a much better option, even short term, would be a plastic tub, something like this. Doesn't have to be filled all the way, but gives you a much more realistic footprint. You can put a couple of rocks in to make him feel more secure. In fact, with some filtration/aeration, you could keep him in there a while in a warm enough room. I've raised fry and juveniles in tubs when I ran out of tanks to go around.

Was the GT the last fish to be added?
If so, this may be part of the problem.
The BPs, or the Jewels, or all 4, are all very territorial species, and if they were the first cichlids, they may have divided the turf up between themselves, leaving no room for any other cichlid, so any cichlid you add to the mix from now on may be harassed to death. To the point of a siucidal leap.
If this is the case, don't add any more cichlids, as the fish you have grow, they will max out the tank anyway.
The tin foils alone will eventually make the tank look crowded and tiny.
Not my pic below but a good indication of how large they get.

I may get rid of the tinfoils the female terror was the first fish in the tank (before the goldfish for cycling they didn't die they are alive and happy) and the bp was the last one to be added except for the male terror. Yesterday I putted some flavine BPC. For how much i know methylene blue is for ich so how it will helpful in healing.? he was such a marvelous boy from shades of blue he becamed now pitch black. Should i try to see him outside the bucket or leave him. when should i add the food in the bucket.
