Water change day

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How do you get the siphon going which a longer tube cause unless it can attach to a bathtub the closest sink is on the other side of the house maybe a 40 ft tube would be needed also beautiful fish is that a Midas cichlid?
The fish is a Amphilophus Saggitae, cousin of the Midas cichlid. Saggitae are an open water predator, vs the Midas is a near shore rock hiding ambush predator.

I hate water change day I love fish keeping but water change day has always been the most day of every other week for me
Based on what I have seen in the past few weeks from your posts you have cichlids, an aro, 2 pacu and an rtc/tsn catfish, and you are doing water changes with the bucket method?? No wonder you don't like to do them. Assuming that your fish are small (I sure do hope that they are), by the time you get them moved to a proper size tank (hopefully tanks), I hope that you will have started to use a different WC method.

Yea the aro and catfish are small the two pacu died sadly the aro is maybe 8-9 inches the RTC is about 4 inches and RTC/TSN is about 5.5-6 then all cichlids are only 1-2 inches biggest being 3 inches salvini cichlid and soon upgrading them to a 180-210g tank it was gonna be 150 but decided to up it a bit then they’ll be in a pond I’ll definitely do updates on that when it happens then with my 40g tank I’ll probably house a wolf fish or something I don’t know yet definitely please give some suggestions

You can greatly speed up the drainage process with a larger diameter hose and or multiple drain hoses. Swim pool hose is popular. Could also use pump on hose, choose a soft solids pump.

I installed a wider diameter water supply pipe to my fish room. Doubling the diameter had quadrupled the flow.

For my outdoor pond, and y 55, it takes around 1.5 hours. And adding on 2 other tanks soon is going to be a major chore. Ill buy a python in a second when I have the money. The thing that takes long is the fact that you need to get the specific water temp.

Does your hot water heater not heat up the tap water that well? I've never had an issue getting tap water close to tank water temperature, in less than 30 seconds.

I too never have an issue getting the tap up to tank temperature when using a python.

The python system is a game changer! I have one and I can do a 80% we on a 125g in 30-45 minutes. Also I never have problems getting the water to temp. As long as the water you are pumping in is close the water in the tank will balance it out. I dont stress about that the thing that stresses me out is I can never take my eyes off of my oscars lol they like to bite my arm and hands when I’m doing WCs
