I agree. I hardly ever feed my palms. I sometimes give them some miracle grow in the spring but that's it. Once they are really established they seem to thrive on neglect.

This was my garden about 3 years ago. I've had to make the pond bigger for my rescue turtles and clear some plants and add a lawn since my daughter arrived.
If you really want to get a tropical feel add bananas and tree ferns.

Wow, I mean wow. All that's missing is you flying past on a vine in your loincloth. Lol.

These are the types of lush jungle type plants that I love. I always thought, in the UK, that the best you could hope for is having a huge conservatory to grow them in. But your garden, and numerous gardens I've seen on gardeners world, have shown that it is indeed possible to achieve this look outside, even in blighty! I have some work ahead of me, lol.

Good job Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7

Thanks. The bit about me flying past like Tarzan made me laugh.
The tropical theme is easier than you may think. The big green bananas now they are mature I leave outside unprotected all year. The big red banana I just dig up cut off all the leaves and store in my garage until the following May. Tree ferns are hardy, just need a ball of straw in the crown over winter. Gunnera manicata is a very nice plant, grows enormous tropical leaves in the summer and is hardy. Bamboo is also hardy evergreen and easy to grow.
Canna lily are great for colour but need digging up late autumn and dry store them in a shed or green house.
Once the plants get settled in its quite easy really.

Lol, you've made me feel really inadequate now. On a positive note though, that Anthurium I bought last week isn't dead....yet! It's in a warmish position, i mist it regularly and the tray the pot is sat in has water in it to aid humidity. It looks beautiful.

There, I bet you don't have a fantastic Anthurium like mine:headbang2lol.

I'm going to have a look at the choices of outside exotics they have at my local nursery next time I'm over there. I need to get the ball rolling on this now, my garden's pants compared to yours, lol.

How do they become properly established if you have to dig them up and store them indoors every year. Obviously it works, looking at the results, I just didn't think it would.

The red banana are not hardy at all. They don't really become established they just gain in trunk size. You can buy a small one about 2 foot tall, plant it early summer and by the end of summer it could be 6 to 8 feet tall depending on the weather. When you dig it up and cut off all the leaves you will have a much bigger trunk. When you plant this sorry looking trunk with no leaves the following year it could reack 12 foot or so and the cycle continues each year.
The green ones (musa basjoo) are quite hardy. I leave mine outside. The frost kills the leaves but the roots become more established and send up more and more baby banana pups each year.

And no I don't have a beautiful anthurium like yours.

On a side not. I highly recommend you try a gunnera manicata. They really are spectacular plants. They grow so fast and produce enormous leaves. They are really easy to grow and look like something from the jurassic Park movies. They are relatively cheap to buy. They just needs loads of water as they are a bog plant. Definitely one of my favourites.

Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 you have a fantastic garden.
I have the gunnera and lots of bamboo, even have a canna I have to take in and out but as for the tree ferns or bannana I am way too far north (leeds) for that. I am assuming Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 that you are somewhat southerly?
