Thanks. The bit about me flying past like Tarzan made me laugh.Wow, I mean wow. All that's missing is you flying past on a vine in your loincloth. Lol.
These are the types of lush jungle type plants that I love. I always thought, in the UK, that the best you could hope for is having a huge conservatory to grow them in. But your garden, and numerous gardens I've seen on gardeners world, have shown that it is indeed possible to achieve this look outside, even in blighty! I have some work ahead of me, lol.
Good jobStanzzzz7
The big red banana I just dig up cut off all the leaves and store in my garage until the following May.
The red banana are not hardy at all. They don't really become established they just gain in trunk size. You can buy a small one about 2 foot tall, plant it early summer and by the end of summer it could be 6 to 8 feet tall depending on the weather. When you dig it up and cut off all the leaves you will have a much bigger trunk. When you plant this sorry looking trunk with no leaves the following year it could reack 12 foot or so and the cycle continues each year. How do they become properly established if you have to dig them up and store them indoors every year. Obviously it works, looking at the results, I just didn't think it would.
