Is this ich?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I will be home in a bit and can check the bottle. I used it by itself in both my salt and my planted tank. Work extremely fast. I followed the directions and by the end of the treatment the ich was gone and did not reappear. I think the treatment called for 5 days but will check.

Thank you. After I read what I wrote I saw I did not clarify that the ultimate is supposed to he a water conditioner. When I bought the ich x I read all directions and it said not to use ich x with a water conditioner that has sulfur or sulfanilamide (something to this effect). On the web page from the manufacturer it says you can use Ultimate (their brand) water conditioner or two other products they have. You are required to change water for this ich x treatment. I currently use seachem prime as a water conditioner, but it has sulfur (which you can clearly smell from the bottle). The ultimate water conditioner arrived and per the directions it says not to use with malachite green or methalyne blue (sure i spelled those wrong). So yes any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I did just now take screen shots of the directions for both. I highlighted the area where it says not to use ultimate with malachite green, and attached a photo of ich x stating you should use ultimate.

The customer support team wrote me back!!!

Thank you for taking the time to contact us and for your support of our products. Ultimate is completely compatible with Ich-X. We use a different type of malachite green than others which is more effective and less problematic to the aquatic environment.
The Hikari Customer Service Team

So I am good to go!!! Just did a water change and added Ultimate. As soon as the ich x is delivered I will be putting it in.

Here is the product I used. Originally purchased for salt water ich but can also be used with freshwater. Followed directions and if I remember correctly all spots of ich were gone with 3-4 days but I treated for a few days more. No problems after cleared up.

Ok. The product I am using is from Hikari. Did you remove all filters when you treated or just carbon?

You would have to remove carbon when using medicine though.

Day one: I did a water change and uswd Ultimate water conditioner. Dosed the water with 36.5 ml of ich x, that was based on widthxlengthxdepth divided by 238 (according to directions). The temp has finally reached 84F. Still monitoring it with meat thermometer. Yesterday was day 3 of feeding garlic soaked tilapia. Today it was just beef heart and blood worms. Both came out to eat. It appears one already has no visible white spots (that doesn’t mean they aren’t there) the other I still noticed a few white spots. There has been a little less flashing going on with ropes. I have noticed them going to get air a little more. But that’s expected with meds and raised temps. I do have an underwater river that uses a pretty long airstone to power it, and the fluval fx6 should be pushing enough water for air, so I think they are alright as far as oxygen. Butterfly is very active and tries to eat meat thermometer when I check temp. Snails are still active and shrimp appear to be fine. Will clean gravel and do W/C this afternoon and post tomorrow. 48990942-D3EB-4295-9AA5-565407FED94F.jpeg
