About Leopard Bushfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
African butterfly fish they just stay on the surface and only eat food that floats. I had 3 of them 2 lived for 5 years and the last one lived for 7 years would be not threat to your bichir the ones I had were in my bichir/rope fish tank
Yeah but Im scared that one would eat my baby Bichir. What about a small firemouth or two ?

no they only feed on the surface any food that begins to sink they dont touch I used to feed my ones floating carnivore sticks and crickets . how big is your bichir african butterfly fish only grow to about 4 inches

I personally have had no issues with keeping leopard bushfish. Currently, I have a male-female pair of albino senegals with 2 leopard bushfish. Both eat the same floating carnivore pellets/sticks and the albinos get to the food with no problems.

In the past, I also kept another 2 leopard bushfish (rehomed) with a 9 inch regular senegal. Again, no issues with the bichir being outcompeted. Same floating foods.

As a plus, they don't mess with the bichirs and the bichirs won't mess with them.

Other tankmates, I have had with my bichirs were Ctenolucius hujeta, larger tetras, larger rasboras, Geophagus, Anabas testiduneus and some more I can't remember.

I like L3CTR0N L3CTR0N have had and still have a ctenopoma acutirostre with my polys including rope fish. No issues between the two. I wouldn't put very small polys with mine now as it's a good 6" easy.

I see you've decided not to go this route because of tank space. Thats a good decision. Besides looking at tank size for fish you also need to look at how many or should I say how few animals your tank size can house without issue. Many people things go into this aggression, waste management, time spent cleaning and so on.

Welp sh*t. Went to the LFS and the employer said they would do fine in a 40B and my tank because of the footprint. It was an impulse buy too because he was being picked on and was in really bad shape I wanted to help it...
Tank isnt really overstocked I rehomed most of my remaining fish. I overfilter and there isnt much aggression. Would he be ok ? I can rehome him if he cant stay I just want to helal him up he was the weakest of the bunch and half dead.

It'll probably be fine.
