About Leopard Bushfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont think so. U literally got 1 member saying that its fine, and two sayings it is not.
you bought it on impulse as you yourself said, so why now say that it was a decision you made after asking?

the tank is to small for long period both of those fish in my opinion. If you google :
senegal: 60″ x 24″ x 24″ (150x60x60cm) – 540 litres. (https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/polypterus-senegalus-senegalus/)
ctenopoma : at least 120 ∗ 30 cm(https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/ctenopoma-acutirostre/)

its good that your helping that fish but it isnt a great house for a long period. Try to look for a bigger tank or a better house if possible in the future.
Its great your saving a fish, but on the long period you are not helping those fishes in that tank atleast.
Not to mention most internet sites give tank Info on large wild sizes of Senegals. Tank Breds or farm raised are smaller and albinos even more. I just sound like an animal abuser I know but at the very least I want to keep my Senegals. I love them to death and dont think I can let them go...

Just keep your sens, don't overthink things and keep what you like. If a fish outgrows your tank, get rid of it?‍♂️.

Sigh ... Ok guess you have a point but cant I at the very least keep my Senegals ? They have been a dream fish of mine for such a long time and I did hear from people that those can be kept in my tank if I do the cleaning right... I can rehome the Bushfish or swap it for something else at the LFS maybe.
well im not sure man.Sorry find it hard to say. I love mine aswell wouldnt wane do them away but also wouldnt wane keep them in a to small tank.
they can be better off in a bigger home .
cant you upgrade in two years or something? like a 1.2meter tank would be perfect for (some)senegal species, bushfish and some pantadon/butterfly.

btw i also had a senegal who was around 26cm. (was a longfin senegal )they can actually get quite big. How are you so sure yours is a smaller bred species?

well they produce a growth inhibiting hormone. If the tank is too small the hormone will be in high concentrations and it wont even grow or atleast slower. When that happens either it organs are outgrowing his body and it suffers and dies eventually... its kinda long period torture. So getting rid of it before it gets stunted would be appreciated for the fish its health. And its hard to guess how big the tank should be in correlation to fish size to not get it stunted.

If he's willing to do a few >50% water changes a week i don't see how his fish would grow slower than say someone with a 100g tank which only gets a 50% water change once a week,it's about dilution

no since the tank is still not big enough if its full grown. the only thing that changes is that it does get full grown instead of dying earlier

God I HATE this hobby sometimes. I asked people Before I bought them they said ok, I rehomed 20 OF MY FISH just to make these guys comfortable. Now Im being told to give them away.
