ID this Cool looking oscar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There is such thing as a lemon oscar which will stay yellow, but the normal albino red/orange tiger don't usually show deep reds when they are small, it is a muted yellow like this fish. My guess would be it will turn out to be a pretty normal albino tiger. Or maybe it will stay yellow, have to grow it out to see Looks like a nice fish either way.

Its a lemon tiger Oscar, 100%. Its not a standard albino, Ive had one from fry and looked nothing at all like this and they don't have hints of yellow. Here's a place in the UK that sells them. Take a look Lemon Tiger

I’ve had 2 people at 2 different LFS tell me that it’s a Platinum/leucistic oscar. They said that leucistics are known to be either all white or have a hint of gold/ yellow in them, like the one I got. They said if it was a true lemon he would have a bright yellow no matter what, even if they were small specks the yellow would stand out and this one is more of a faded gold especially for his size which he/she is like almost 4.5 to 5 inches. And then I remembered that back in January I went to check the same lfs where I got this one from and they Had gotten platinum Oscar’s and I took a picture of them. Luckily I still had those pics, just had to go back and find them and mine does look similar to the platinums they were selling, all white body or all white with a hint of gold. So I was thinking maybe this one was from the same batch ? Since the ones from January were very small and this one is bigger maybe it grew from the period of January to now? Originally I was looking for a common albino tiger, but apparently there’s been a shortage on those here in GA for the past month. No one can get a hold of those, I had called like 20 stores and they hadn’t gotten any this month, then I called my LFS that’s like 25 minutes, and they were like “ yes we have a albino tiger that’s like 5 inches and been sitting here for a little over 2 weeks” so I went and I saw it and I immediately fell in love with how white it is but I asked the worker if they were sure that was a common albino tiger since they have red or orange specks or stripes. They were like “ I’m not sure that’s what our distributor sent it as so that’s what we’re labeling it”. I ended up getting him and now here I am trying to solve this mystery, very social too. Not sure to what is since I keep getting answers as lemon or platinum from a lot of peacock lol, but as I said I’m just curious to know xD (these are the pics from the platinums back in January) you can see some gold just like mine

These platinum are gorgeous!!!
Oh yeah!!! I named him Zues, and i have a red Oscar named Vulcan, Greek Gods!. Only thing is that Zues hasn’t really ate since I got him (March 13). He gets along with Vulcan but never goes for the food when I drop it in there. My water parameters are fine so I’m hoping he’s just shy and hasn’t fully acclimated? Lol

Is he still not eating anything? 10 days he should be eating. If not, try adding a bit of garlic to the food to try and entice him. He doesn't look shy to me from the pictures and seems quite settled but pictures dont always tell the full story.

Nope, he’ll spend most of his time glass surfing and when I drop any type of food into the tank he don’t seem bothered by it, Just ignores it, I’ve tried all sizes of sinking and floating pellets. I have garlic powder from when my fish get Ich. And I’ve sprinkled a bit into their food but don’t seem to work. Vulcan on the other hand as soon as I walk in my room he goes crazy and is always hungry. And there’s no bullying between them. I’ve tested my water a few times with the API master test kit and everything since to be normal, nothing out of the ordinary . I’ve done a few water changes to keep my water pristine clear. He usually always chills at the top of the tank

If it refuses frozen bloodworms then something is wrong.

What size pellets are you feeding? Have you tried feeding with the lights off above the aquarium?

I have yet to tried blood worms. I’ll try today when I get home, I’ll also try with lights off. (API pellets has garlic in the ingredients)

I wouldn't try any pellet larger than 2mm Omega One Small sinking. Oscar mouths are bigger than their throats. So no shrimp pellets or medium Hikari.
