Gender My Jack Dempsey

Nipping at the tetras isn’t too concerning. They heal really fast and can take a hit (as long as they aren’t killed). My jd would regularly nip at the tetras but has slowed down with some size.
If the eating stopped when the new cichlid went in, I’d bet it’s stress related to that. It will adjust unless there is too much aggression (which is possible - you don’t always see it).
O she Killed the tetras and no aggression between the hybrid and they are opposite sex!
Although this makes me think about if I took him out maybe it would change but I plan on moving her to a 75 and adding additional cichlids maybe 2 so I mean she needs to get over it!
But will she because if not I will have her solo then in this tank and then get all babies for my 75gal. What else do I do!!! Like I said I tried beef heart seriously that’s me sinking low on food for my fish I like to feed healthy!!!

Do you mean yes move her to a 75 gallon with 2 butterfly cichlids and a TBar cichlid???
That’s what I want to do…….
Lots of cichlids with common name “butterfly,” which type did you mean? Some definitely cannot be with a jd (or sijaca/t-bar).

Great someone who knows the difference this is what I have been struggling with which butterfly cichlid is the right one????? Is there any chance you know which ones I need by the science name cause that’s how my pet store will be ordering them!!!!! Also I am afraid she will not make a good community fish due to her last reaction although that was in a 55 gallon less room today will be day 7 since she has eaten!!! I’m very close to returning her and getting one to raise my self

Then3 butterfly cichlids I know of are ram cichlids, African butterfly cichlid, and eureka red cichlids.
Rams and African butterflies are peaceful and will need very different water parameters than jd. Their peaceful temperament and small size also makes them pretty much unable to compete with a jd.
Eureka red is a type of African peacock cichlid - it’s ideal water params match better but they can be mean. Most of us don’t like mixing rift lake cichlids with American or African riverine cichlids due to various factors, but it is frequently down. If any of the butterfly cichlids were to work with a jd it would be them.
Imo I’d keep the jd alone, evidently it doesn’t do well with other fish.

How big are the tetras? I guess I forgot to mention that a small one is gonna be an easy meal, but they grow really fast.

That’s what I was worried about them being African cichlids and I am not wanting to mix so those are off the list the tetras ranged
1-2in in size she either outright killed them or fatally injured….. I have 1 of 3 that I moved and survived his injury and it’s a large cut behind the gill plate so I guess he’s lucky I call him Jackie Chan he is now in a large community tank well 30 gallon lots of different fish that do not mix but somehow it works!!! One of the communities where you are like I will try this fish and it works out no major lines crossed though!!! O day 7 no food I’m about to return her and start with my own baby JD tbh

Try separating out the other cichlid and see if it eats - it might be stressed with it around.

There was only the 1 that hybrid removed for 3 days nothing worked so at day 7 today I took her back to the pet shop the owner is going to see what he can do but I had to surrender her back in exchange so I lost my fish and $40 so he gave me a baby Dempsey for it!!!! So now I have a clown loach 2”
2 total 2.5” panda garra and then a 1” JD
I wish I could have another cichlid as too he or she is moving to my 75 gallon unless I choose to keep this way and make the 75 a big community with out my JD he had Blue Accra but they were $25 same size as my 1” Dempsey I couldn’t afford it maybe next week

imo I wouldn’t recommend Blue acaras, they’re pretty but the Dempsey would be too aggressive for it and stress it out
