Around 2010 these guys become extremely common for sale in my state(South Carolina) even big box stores would get them in. This lasted a couple years then I never really saw them for sale again. Still have not seen them for sale in person not even in the stores that get more interesting species in. Seem easy to order them online at least.


I was a kid at the time, and definitely not the best fish keeper. Yet these guys did well for me, and did well for my brother who was even worse with his fish.


I wonder what made them fall out of fashion? They are intriguing, easy to breed from what I understand, and sturdy. I mean when you compare them to a lot of other commonly available fish these guys make a lot more sense.

I remember working in a pet department in the 80's and tbh they really didn't sell well. I think not having eyes most people didn't like them.

I haven't seen one in person for years lol.
I've matured now and do have a couple of fish with eye defects.

They will happily eat anchor cats.

After doing a water change today I found that I still have all but one anchor cat which died the same week he was bought. The bumblebee cats are all there too and looking fatter than ever.

I think they’re extremely underrated fish. The way they move reminds me of the blue ray logo gliding and bouncing off the tv screen corners if that makes any sense.

anchor cat

Never heard of a anchor catfish so did research on it and pretty unique looking.
If I didn't have Banjo Catfish with my 3 bumblebee catfish I would get a couple.

Not heard anchor cats called Asian stone cats before, their usual name is moth cats but hara jerdoni is the anchor cat.
