Once silicone coats wood it is near impossible to get it off to then stain it. Learned the hard way with the sump. I stained the frame prior to the install. The stain wasn't completely dry so that should help repell the silicone.
The aquarium frame is heavy! My wife and I had a hard time tipping it on its side. I was worried it would come crashing over, so I rigged up a ratchet strap to get the aquarium about 30 deg. Saw horses to spot the two of us as we squat the aquarium flat.
Good stuff. Definitely watch those fingers when you right it, you may want some blocks on the stand to set it on temporarily. After following this thread I have no doubt you will figure it out.
Didnt think to wipe down the plywood that had the weights on it. Not even sure if I needed the weights.
SCRATCHED the glass. Deep enough to catch a finger nails. Heart breaker! I spent five hours buffing it out!! Set the timer for 12 minutes and buffed about 20 12 nin sets.
I was drilling the holes for the flex tubing and the cordless Dewalt got away from me. SPLASH into the sump. I was worried that it would be toast after being under water. Proper protocol would be to let dry overnight. I pulled it out of the water and tested it. Water flew all over. It worked? Wow. Still works, that was yesterday. 5 hrs of buffing with it today
