100 Gallon glass and hardwood tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have spent not a dollar! I had all the materials and desk given/left over from previous construction projects! I woke up this morning to 80 gallons of water circulating through my filter JUST like it is supposed to!! YEEHAAA!!!

Well, Rosa was been renamed to Mona.

I will be finializinig the filter system today and hooking up the heating system, cause I'm sure Mona and the 'jugernaut' goldfish were alittle chilly last night. Water temp 68 in the garage and 76 inside my other 3 tanks.

I picked 3 dozen ghost shrimp to hopefully have a colony breeding within all the bricks and plastic plants that will be going in soon. Also, the convicts breeding with all the hiding spots and such, my plans on an ecosystem should work with the gatekeeper being Mona.

More pics to come....

Okay, Monday morning....still holding 80 gallons in tank and about 15 gallons in the sumps. I also have the RES, a bristle nose pleco, about 7 ghost shrimp and 4 goldfish. All is going well, wanted to let the system run through for a few days before I seed the filter from my other systems. The water is clearing up, I havent tested my water yet, soon. The tank /desk itself seems to be holding very well, all is dry on the outside, no drips or moisture build up of any kind. I am pretty happy with the short term so far. It took about 200 feet of flashing tape to complete this 120 gallon tank. At 50 bucks per roll....but I didnt pay for it :)

When I build my 8x30x30, I believe I will use one layer of tape all over then use FRP on top of that, siliconing all seams. And also will be using plywood instead of stock lumber.

DSCN2107.JPGThis was my first project. 30 gallon (10) tiger barb tank drilled and gravity feeding the 20 gallon map turtle tank drilled and feeding the shrimp breeder tank drilled feeding the 30 gallon sump via 3 drawer wet/dry. Top drawer filled with furnace filter and scotch green scrubbie, next drawer filled with scotch white scrubbers that came with handles, removed handles, third drawer filled with loose pvc strainds, chopped pieces of corragated pipe, and the tails of zip ties after use. Crystal clear water. Me and my wife build the backgrounds and decorations.

Thank you! Yes that is a pool thermometer, repurposed.

Small leak in front panel on bottom left. The corners were a bit tricky, but in hind sight, and maybe foresight because I am leaving it up and runng for the week and then drain, and redo, the corners and another layer over the bottom. Or might go get some FRP and build another one. Either way this one is getting repaired and given to my wifes sisters cooter and map.

Drained the tank last night, took awhile to catch 4 goldfish, a dozen ghost shrimp, and thant damn bn pleco, fast little guy! It was dry this morning, this evening I will remove seam tape and redo using a different method. Then cover the whole inside again. THAT will be the test, and if it stands up through the winter, I will build another this summer but around 300 gallon with frp.

Crap! There is a leak somewhere and I cannot find where it is coming from. Conclusion....PP tape is water proof, however the seam where there will be a window is the weak point. If it was a box with out windows, a definte possibility long term. But I want viewing areas besides the top. I will take apart tank, still going to use the desk as the base, rebuild the walls with 1/2 plywood and 1/2 hardiboard framed with 2x6 flat side for frames. They drylok it to death! Insert window and add water......pic coming soon.....
