Do you have any recommendations for dithers? That sounds reasonable to me, along with some dithers and nice aquascaping that could be a great tank.

Thank you for your input. The tank info is in post. I am absolutely open to changing both the type of fish and stocking levels of tank to make successful.
I am now thinking a large Pleco may not be such a good idea for this tank. I am unsure of dithers that are good with this , open to suggestions. You should be fine with that set up. An upgraded filter wouldn't hurt though. Just keep up on water changes and I wouldn't see any issues. What type of pleco are you thinking of and are you doing just cichlids or some kind of shoaling fish as well?
Thank you Stanzzzz7 . I found the biotadoma cupido in my research yesterday, love that fish!! At the time was unsure if it would go with the fish I was concidering, that is a definite then, I will get those.I think it's doable with a little tweaking.
Uaru are large fish so 4 would be the maximum I would put in that tank.
A lot also depends what geos you chose.
Personally I feel most from the Altifrons group would be to large to maintain with uaru, with sizes of around 10 to 12 inches.
Plus the fact most people keep them in groups, I think the tank would become cramped.
If you want another species to keep in there I would try a group of Bolivian rams.
Their smaller size and bright colours would really compliment your uaru.
They would also add a lot less to your bioload.
You could also look at biotadoma cupido, another beautiful little cichlid that does well in small harems.
Too be honest I'm a little uncomfortable saying four uaru would be ok.Thank you Stanzzzz7 . I found the biotadoma cupido in my research yesterday, love that fish!! At the time was unsure if it would go with the fish I was concidering, that is a definite then, I will get those.
If I did just Uaru and biotadoma cupido. What numbres would you give for stocking.
If that is the case, I will not use Uaru in this tank. I am not so stuck on a fish that will keep it at any cost. I want them to be comfortable in their environment. I am unfamiliar with heros sp. Rotkiel. I look it up.Too be honest I'm a little uncomfortable saying four uaru would be ok.
I think you could just get away with them but a slightly smaller species would probably be a better fit.
Do you like heros sp Rotkiel?
They are still a decent sized fish but stay just few inches smaller than the uaru.
If you choose the biotadoma I would aim for 1 male and 4 or 5 females.
A group of Colombian tetras would make nice dithers, just make sure they are of a size that the other fish wont prey on.

After looking, yes, they are a nice fish- definitely colorful. So now I need to determine a smaller species of Geophagus to keep with them. When I looked up the Rotkiel I found them on Imperial's page, it said in the info about them that they did well with the Geo "Red Head" that stays much smaller.I think that would be an excellent choice. If you are looking for color, a rotkiel would look nicer than any uaru species IMO.
