120 Aquarium Stocking Suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You shouldn't, I've seen a ton of idiotic posts on here by this point, yours are hardly idiotic. There's nothing wrong with being new at something, you should be excited. There's a wealth of knowledge on these forums. There are plenty of cichlids I don't know the latin name for, there's literally thousands of different species. Keep asking questions :)
Thank you.

I totally agree.
It's the ones that don't ask questions that wonder why their fish are killing each other.
Ask away.

Hypselecara Temporalis
This is the most beautiful fish, the Hypselecara Temporalis! I looked it up on Seriously Fish...but it had very low ph requirement. (6.0-7.0) Amazingly, I liked it even better then the geophagus that I had my heart set on. If I got tank raised do you think they would do well? I wouldn't want them to not grow to their full potential due to being in the wrong water parameters. It also looks like they can get really large. Which may not be practical for the size tank I will have.
This is another species that caught my attention:Hoplarchus psittacus- very nice fish.
I will look at the other suggestions you all have provided me today.

Edit: Never-mind about the Hoplarchus psittacus I just read a couple threads on here about its "brute" status. Sure is amazing though...

I have 2 of them and are beautiful fish, the bigger they are the more color you see on them. I thought they would be more passive but no they can be real bossy or mean. The chocolate cichlid is fun wet pet type of fish. They are friendly and hold their ground against more aggro fish.

They, the Chocolate Cichlids, require soft water, correct? What is your ph?

Yes I believe they prefer but I have one f1 Peru catch location and the other tank bred and they have always been healthy. I don't check any of my water parameters I've never used those kits, I know i probably should purchase a kit set. I just like to keep up with water changes and dose my water with prime

Now Hoplarchus Psittacus I would be concerned about pH wise, much more so than temperament. I have a soft spot for them they're wonderful fish. A chocolate will not outgrow your 120, they're like a smaller, nicer, prettier Oscar essentially.
