I have a few 125 gallon 6ft tanks and I wish I had a 150 4 footer as my pleco has a hard time turning around in the 18 inch wide tank. I like the wider tanks alot better. I have been trying to find someone to trade me a 120 gallon fat boy for one of my 125 gallon tanks.

Thanks for the input.

If I was to stock with a bamboo shark (as a grow out), does this make a difference?

Would the bamboo appreciate the longer tank or wider tank?

Sorry about the SW references

I have both a 6’ 125 Gal and a 4’ 120 Gal… Both are real nice tanks… both have advantages over the other…

Neither is “a better” tank in and of itself… Either could be better suited for a particular stocklist… Either could look better in a given location in your home…

can you get the best of both worlds:

72" 150g (72x18x27 or 29 depending on the manufacturer) tanks are common..
just a thought.

if its just between those two though, I would get the 150g tank. more volume is a good thing.

In my experience the biggest ‘advantage’ the 4’ 150 gal is going to have is a 2’ width. Therefore to have the best of both worlds he would need to be looking at a 6’ 180 gal… or the 6’ 210/220 if he likes the 2.5’ height…

PS - I didn't vote as I do not feel enough information is given to offer a solid suggestion...

idk he mentioned a lionfish which means I would change my vote to the 150g. I have a 125 and definitely like it for my Oscars, but if I were to set it up for lionfish or any salt water setup for that matter I would prefer the width and height.

btw any fish that is too wide to turn around in an 18" tank isn't going to like being contained to a tank 2x its length and it won't really care about the height. thus if the fish is over 18" long you really need a 180g or larger.

i have the 150 tall and wide .. its 31" tall 24" wide and 4' long .. LOVE IT!!! im all about the wide tanks .. but then again .. i like rays ..

Get the 125, and let me get the 150 :D.
