I prefer a lower, longer footprint to a wide one - but that's just me - as long as the fish can turn around comfortably, I prefer to see them swiming horizontally vs vertically.

But both tanks are cool, none the less.

I think the lionfish would prefer the 48 inch tank.

If you were gonna add tangs I'd say get the 72.

personally, I like being in the 'over 125 club' since it seems that everyone has 125's, but few make the next leap up.

thats when you know your truly crazy about fish:)

you might consider joining the club :)

125 gal high club? ... sorry

this might help:

in reality, lions are going to do very well in either size tank.

what might your deciding factor is live rock.

if you go to the salt forums, people HATE 18" wide tanks with a passion in most cases.

why?

because even though you think you have lots of width, when you start putting chunks of irregular rock in there, it becomes skinny real quick. especially with a decent sized peice.

hence, the favourtism towards a 24" wide tank. which is the 150g in this case.

so, not only do you have more width to work with for live rock, you have 25g more water to play around with too, which is a good thing..

if you go with the 150g that is.

Planted tank people seem to have a similar opinion of 12" wide 55s
